You're encouraged to discuss your situation with a staff member if you have concerns over your assessments:

if you are looking to submit an EC, we still strongly recommend you also let someone know of the challenges you are facing. Support services can be identified as follows.

  • Personal Tutor or Academic Guide

  • Support and Wellbeing Officer

  • Senior Tutor

  • Supervisor (for PGR students)

  • School Postgraduate Student Adviser (SPSA) or another suitable School contact (for PGR students)

For more subject-specific queries are concerns, do make contact your module convenor (details on moodle).

Short term issues

For urgent short-term exam adjustments (e.g. a broken hand requiring a scribe), speak to your School (e.g. Personal Tutor or Module Convenor) as early as possible. If adjustments can’t be arranged in time, you may need to take the exam at the next available opportunity.

What if the matter relates to a long-term condition?

An EC is generally for short-term, acute issue. If you have a chronic or ongoing condition, this would be managed through a support plan or voluntary interruption of study.

If you already have a support plan, then sometimes an acute flare up that is beyond the remit of the support plan may be covered by an EC.

If you are seeking an extension, use this tool to help you determine the path that is most appropriate for your situation.

If you continue to be affected by the same issue or experience a recurrence, consult a medical or professional advisor.

Where your circumstances become ongoing or chronic, you are encouraged to refer to the regulation on ‘Long-Term Conditions or Disabilities Affecting the Ability to Study and/or Comply with Assessment Requirements’. This may lead to support such as a formal support plan or individual arrangements for examinations or to voluntarily interrupt studies.
